1. Do you feel that this class has been helpful to you?
Yes. I have developed better studying habits and I've started using my time more wisely with my planner.
I will probably use everything I've learned throughout my college education.

What is your main drive to succeed in college and why?
Do you think that you might switch your major?
I don't really know what we should focus on in this course. I figured it would just basically be a guidance class but it turns out that I'm doing Freshmen Seminar homework more than my Math. I like the tips though. The tips and note taking techniques that you give us have became very useful so far this year.
I need help with my time management. I'm definetly not a morning person and every Tuesday and Thursday we have class at 8am. I know it's not any different than highschool but it's just a bitch to get up that early. UGH. I like to stay up late too which is even worse.
I think I really need more sleep and study time if anything. I spend too much time watching football (sad right?). I know I have the brains to get straight A's but I just have no motivation sometimes. I much rather have all of my homework done before the weekend begins. It just would be a big stress relief. I like going out but knowing that I have a stack of homework waiting for me when I get back is not the greatest feeling. =[
Ø Describe your ideal Instructor/Professor.
I don't really have an "ideal" professor. I think that a professor should be able to teach his/or her subject in a way that is best fitting for the material. In anatomy, for example, Prof. Froiland reads off all of the information for us to take notes on. This method would not be as productive if it was in a math class where you need to see it on the board. I don't really like the thought of an ideal professor because I think you need some variety in your professors in order to suceed. It would be incredibly boring if we sat in class everyday with a professor just like Froiland.
Ø “I knew it when I studied it, but I forgot it on the test.” How can students study differently to prevent this from happening?
You can't just use one study method. If you study just by trying to memorize what's on the paper everytime, chances are you won't get everything crammed in there. You need to switch it up. Do some flash cards, have someone quiz you, write and re-write the material, or something else.
Ø How do you study for quizzes/tests?
I really like the Cornell note taking method. I like changing up my study method everytime I study or I change my study environment.
Ø What do you have trouble with on quizzes/tests?
I'm not an essay person. I HATE THEM. I just have a hard time putting what I'm thinking down on paper.
Reaction to Mcdonald's letter:
I think that the girl seems a little over the top. I completely believe that she gets treated that way but she needs to realize that it's a job that she chose. You can't expect much out of an unqualified job. She should quit if it's too much on her. Someone has to do it. McDonald's has to have someone working for them because of their high demand. I don't have any sympathy for the girl and it may be a different reaction than anyone else's but it just seems stupid to me. If you don't like the job you signed up for, quit. You can't expect much better from McDonald's.
Peace.
I learned about 2 diseases that affect the bones. Rickets, which affects calcium absorbtion and makes your bones bend easily . Scurvy, being the other, affects the absorbtion of Vitamin C and makes your bones brittle.
Ø List a few pleasant events that happened during your first weeks at NMU.
I made TONS of new friends and I went to the beach a few times. =]
Ø Where do you want to be (academically) in six months?
I want to be comfortable with the college atmostfere and be getting grades that show my ability.
Ø List habits you already possess that make you successful in college.
I am able to make time for homework even if all I want to do is have a little fun on the weekends.
Ø List habits (timewasters?) you can change or modify, or need to lose.
I would like to stay away from the whole party every day of the weekend schedule.
Ø Explain how you approach studying your a) textbook and b) notes.
I never rely on my notes completely. I use my notes as a basic template as to what I'm going to be studying. The notes I take are what I hear from the teacher so those key points help me to find what I need to study in my textbook.
Ø Explain how you determine what to write down in notes during lectures.
I have a different note taking technique for every class so it really depends. If it's mainly a lecture class I take all the notes I possibly can and re-organize them later in my own time.
No, but I do believe it's the parents responsibility to teach their children what is good for them and what is bad also. It's not just the media that's causing children to eat this food. Parents are a major factor too.
PEACE.
Ø List your own quote, favorite saying, song, or other expression of your feelings today.
Well, my song of the day is going to be "It's Tricky" by Run DMC because it's one of my favorite old school songs and I've played it approximately 4 times already today. =]
Ø Now that you made it to NMU – why are you here?To have a great learning and life experience.
It's the closest school with my major.
I love the friends I made and I enjoy the fact that there is so much to do around here.
Well I've missed a few but so far they seem to be a nice challenge.
There are some crazy ass people in West Hall let me tell you. I get along with them all but it was a shocker to here about the "Pants-less Porn Fridays" down the hall.
I can't understand 2 of my teachers very well due to either dialect or speech impediment so I think I'll have to move up to the front and take a lot of notes.
Ø What do you think will be your biggest challenge(s) academically this semester?
Studying is not one of my favorite past times but I think I might be able to figure something out.
Ø Finally, name one goal (personal, academic, etc..) you have for yourself next week.I want to get all of my homework in on time.
